Question 1: Develop a Team Plan

As part of developing a global perspective for the organization in support of the new Board of Director’s strategic initiative for the organization to go regional in the next 12 months, you’ve been assigned to head a team drawing members from across the organization to spearhead a benchmarking project. The primary aim of the project is to reduce the shop floor grades from seventeen to four (an improvement in productivity).

Question 2: Manage and Reward Team Performance

A. Show how you would proceed to resolve a conflict that has arisen between two members in your team, who are both line managers, with particular reference to the joint resolution of the scarcity of resources and constraint of time faced by both via the use of strategic focus and synergistic or collaborative action.

Consider how you could reward the collaborative action in accordance with existing reward policies in the organization. Consider also if the team members had cross-functional responsibilities, how would the “rewards” differ? Do consider reward policies that may be prevalent in your industry.

B. Illustrate how the performance of the individual members in your project team is monitored over time, in particular the attention you need to pay in providing the right coaching style with constructive feedback, and in general, how you modify in your discretionary use of individualized reward strategies such the positive reinforcement technique. Highlight the various departments that you may need to liaise with in order to help you to individualize reward strategies.

Question 3: Monitor the Implementation of a Team Plan

Show how you manage and control contingencies and unwanted eventualities by applying the appropriate risk avoidance and risk reduction strategies with reference to your role and accountability for managing risks arising from the specific terms of reference as set out in the project plan as outlined above.

In particular, explain the tactical moves required to circumvent the constraints attributed to organizational policies and standard operating procedures as existing in your department or organization. Describe some models and methods that you know to manage risks.

Outline briefly the role played by team leaders under your charge in the area of risk identification and risk management.
