This assignment comprises TWO (2) tasks.

Task 1: Expatriation Proposal

Draft a 2,000-word formal proposal to seek Management’s approval to expatriate Pamela to India as Senior Manager GFSSC. The proposal should

  1. Develop a business case for the expatriation vis-à-vis local hire;
  2. Using the expatriate cycle as a framework, highlight relevant factors to consider from both Pamela and the company’s perspectives and specific recommendations to facilitate a successful assignment; and
  3. Develop a detailed cost estimate for a 2-year assignment assuming a home-based, balance-sheet compensation approach. Research your cost estimates online and rationalise any assumptions that are made. Table your cost estimates clearly and derive the additional cost to the company in posting Pamela to Mumbai as opposed to hiring a local manager.

Task 2: In-Bound Expatriates Support Plan

In addition to the expatriation of Pamela, a group of Indian employees from GFSCC will be traveling to Singapore for a 3-week training. The training is to help the office understand the F&A functions that will be transferred over to Mumbai.

Draft a 1,000-word plan that details how your HR will support the GFSSC employees during their training in Singapore. The plan should be comprehensive and consider visa requirements, accommodation, cost of living in Singapore, any training, including cultural training (as this is the first time, these employees are traveling out of India), and how they will interact with the colleagues in Singapore, etc.

Likewise, Annex B provides additional information relating to the training stint. You must show all references to data obtained to support your proposal. Where assumptions are made, please clearly state the rationale and relevance to the proposal.
