Project 1 Research Topics
No more than 5 students per group. Nominate a group leader. Each student select one topic to research. No duplication of the same topic.
Topic 1: Semiconductor Devices part 1
Diode circuits such as clippers, clampers, full and half-bridge rectifiers, voltage doublers, Tripler and filtering.
Topic 2: Semiconductor Devices part 2
Diode Devices: (Choose any 6 components of the following to research)
Light-emitting diode, photoconductive diode, varactor diode, light-dependent diode, Opto-coupling devices, varistor, thyristor diode, silicon controlled rectifiers (thyristor), triacs, rectifier diodes, Zener diode, etc
Topic 3: Op-Amp
The operation and function of an operational amplifier used as an integrator, differentiator, voltage follower and comparators.
Topic 4: Digital Logic Gates
The operation and functions of the various types of Universal gates. List the truth table of these gates. (i.e.: AND, OR, NOT etc)
Use of logic gates to design a full adder circuit and list the truth table.
You can use the Galstad tool to simulate the full adder circuit truth table. https://www.falstad.com/circuit/circuitjs.html
Print screen your Galstad circuit and simulate one of the input combinations to obtain it output results and include it into the report. Include your URL of this circuit.
Topic 5 Basic Computer Systems
Layout and interface of the major components in a computer system including their associated bus systems and operation of each of the following microprocessor elements such as CPU, control and processing unit, clock, register, memory devices, arithmetic logic unit and data storage systems.
Topic 6 Servomechanism
The operation of servomechanism and explain the fundamentals of synchros.
- Describe the principle of operation of a torque transmitter and receiver.
- Describe the principle of operation of control transmitter (CX) and transformer (CT).
- Explain the effect of changing the stator and rotor wiring.
Topic 7 Date buses and fibre optics
- Write on the data buses of ARNIC 429 and 629 in detail.
- Explain in detail the fibre optics used in an aircraft.
- Show relevant data specifications/sheets of the devices.
Topic 8 Display and ESD/EMI
Explain the various types of display used on an aircraft and how ESD & EMI are been applies to these displays.
