2.0 Introduction
This essay highlights my experience volunteering at Heartware Network as a volunteer. I started out as a general volunteer for the National Day Parade (NDP) in 2022 and progressed to Volunteer Leader in 2023.
My NDP Journey: From Volunteer to Leader When I first joined the Heartware Network as a general volunteer for NDP 2022, I was eager but unsure of what to expect. The experience turned out to be much more enriching than I could have imagined. As a general volunteer, I was responsible for assisting every deployment with crowd control, providing information to the many oncoming public members, and ensuring the smooth execution of deployment plans assigned to my team. Through these tasks, I developed very strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure, thanks to the guidance of my peers.
In 2023, I was given the opportunity by the organisation to take on a leadership role as a Volunteer Leader. This transition marked a very big significant milestone in my personal and professional growth, adding on to what I had learned in 2022. Leading a big team of general volunteers required me to develop and demonstrate various leadership qualities which were new to me. I had to plan and coordinate many tasks with my leader partner, resolve conflicts from public and my general volunteers, and motivate my team to achieve our common goals while keeping team morale as high as I can.
