Network Infrastructures–Component 1 ICA 2018-19
Component one will assess learning outcomes 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8, and weighted at 50%(See the Appendix for learning outcomes)
1. Component 1 Deliverables
Completed design (one centre) + report (ICA 1).
2. Scenario
AMY Networks is a consultancy business that designs, installs and operates networks for clients in the Traffic Management Centre Sector. As one of their project leaders you have been asked to respond to an ITT (Invitation to tender) for the network design, installation and operation for a new network in a Traffic Management Centre, including links from remote Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras that are located along motorways. The network will include providing services for the control room in the form of desktop computers and video displays and the links from the cameras back to the control room.
The ITT document is included with this ICA. The tender that you produce in response to the ITT should take the following form.
3. Design
You need to respond to the ITT with the following documents: –
- Logical Design Diagram (control room, just for one center)
- Design an IPv6 subnetting scheme for the control center. Specify how you will allocate IP addresses to the different blocks in the new design and show if route summarization will be used at any level. The use of a calculator is not allowed. The addressing scheme must be hierarchical. You can use a public or private IPv6 address for subnetting.
4. Design Report (2000 words)
The report must provide a description of the design and all of the decisions that you have made in the process of developing the design. This will include a discussion of the design model, Security, WAN protocol, Layer 2,3 and wireless protocols that you have decided to use. You should also include a discussion of the technologies used to connect the cameras.

Network Infrastructures–Component 2 ICA 2018-19
Implementation + report (ICA 2). Component two will assess learning outcomes 1, 2,7and9, and weighted at 50% (See the Appendix for learning outcomes)
1. Component 2 Deliverables
You are required to implement the proposed part 1 design in a software incorporating appropriate secure remote access solution. The tender that you produce in response to the ITT should take the following form.
2. Implementation
You need to respond to the ITT with the following documents: –
- Implementation of the proposed Network Design including the WAN links between the centers.
- Implement the IP addressing scheme.
- Include Screen capture of the test results to demonstrate successful network operation (maximum 7).
3. Report(1500 words)
Discussion on the Network Implementation including VPN or secure remote access solution and how VPN and Secure access solutions influence privacy, security, legal issues, and ethics. The discussion should be linked to the proposed solution and is required to be of an appropriate academic standard, make full use of the research tools available in the Library (e.g. using the Discovery system) with appropriate criteria, and be correctly referenced. The School operates a standard procedure for providing (at least) a minimum level of feedback to students in line with the University’s Assessment and Feedback Policy.
