Assignment Details:

Question 1

UNISING is a university established in Singapore. David is the manager of UNISING Badminton Club (“UBC”). UBC is one of a group of 20 badminton teams from tertiary institutions in the Tertiary Badminton League (“TBL”). The TBL season starts shortly after the academic year for the tertiary institutions commences and ends before each academic year. You may assume that there is a standard academic season for ALL tertiary institutions in Singapore.

David is also a lecturer in Chemistry in UNISING’s School of Zoology whilst his colleague, Edwin is a lecturer in Applied Mathematics in UNISING’s School of Science and Technology. Their work duties are independent of each other such that neither gentlemen will be able to assist the other to discharge any of his duties.

Edwin is a staunch supporter of UBC and both gentlemen bond over badminton.

Before the start of this academic season, Edwin meets the CEO (“Freddy”) of a listed company. In the course of their conversation, Freddy confesses that he too is a badminton fan but thinks that Dover University who are coached by CW Lee would be champions. Freddy tells Edwin “if UBC become Champions, you can collect $10,000.00 from me anytime.” Freddy replies “Thank you for your offer. I look forward to collecting the $10,000.00 come November when UBC are crowned champions”.

The next day, Edwin tells David of Freddy’s offer and his own acceptance. He adds to David “Bro, I am counting on you for my $10,000.00”.

David is galvanised by Freddy’s offer and increases the frequency of the UBC’s training session from twice to four times per week and is present at every training session to ensure that every player is giving his best.
