2. Components of CA2: 

  • Roleplay to be carried out in groups during the last tutorial on 5 Jan 2020.
  • The Notice of Meeting, Agenda email are to be submitted in Moodle before the role play.
  • Each group to submit one Action Minutes corresponding to the role play that was presented.

i. Instructions and Scenarios for Meeting Role Play

  •  Using the given scenario, role plays a Meeting of about 10 minutes.
    All members in the group must be in the role play and all members must speak up during the role play.
  • In the meeting, your group MUST:
  •  Decide who plays the chairperson and secretary.
  •  Show one member exhibiting either, the bulldog or hippo personalities, and how the chairperson is able to manage this person.
  • Show a conflict and how the conflict was resolved.
  •  The group will need to submit the action minutes of a meeting, corresponding to what was presented in the role play.

ii. Marking Criteria:
A. Role Play:

  • How well was the meeting run? Was it organised? Were the roles i.e. chairperson, secretary, members clearly defined?

Scenario 1: You are the facility manager of a commercial building. Some renovation work is on going at Level 3. Tenants at levels 2 and 4 are unhappy with the noise and dirt generated from the renovation and have lodged several complaints with your office. Call a meeting with your team to resolve the matter.
Scenario 2: Recently, there are frequent complaints on the poor lighting levels and fluctuating air-con temperature in the new office building that your company has moved into 3 months ago. The general manager has called for a meeting with the mechanical engineer, electrical engineer and facility manager to brainstorm for solutions and replies to the complaints.
Scenario 3:You are the facility manager of a large condominium. Several residents across different blocks have complained about sightings of monkeys near their kitchen windows. There is also a 5-year old resident who was attacked by a monkey while playing near the swimming pool area. The management committee is very concerned about this. Call a meeting with your team to resolve the issue.
Scenario 4: It is time for the weekly project meeting which involves the project manager, civil engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer and architect. This is a luxurious condominium project which is in the final stages of construction. There has been a delay in schedule due to a fire on-site two days ago. The team needs to meet to get the project back on schedule.
Scenario 5: You are the boss of a renovation company. Two of your major clients are unhappy with the delay in their renovation works. Call a meeting with your team to investigate the cause(s) of delay and how to resolve it.
Scenario 6:Your company has appointed you to be the Safe Management Officer for a residential building that will start work in January 2020. Call a meeting with the key site personnel to inform them of the measures that will need to be in place.
