The upbeat rallying theme of Australia Day points to the focus of this article which reports research that unpacks the construction of Australia Day to identify the pivotal role played by ‘promotional intermediaries’ – in particular, public relations (PR) practitioners as a group of influential but largely under-studied ‘new cultural intermediaries’.
