Highline Civil Construction (HCE) – Project in Jordan

Highline Civil Engineering (HCE) is a British-based construction company that has won a contract to build a highway extension and bridge over a river in Jordan close to the city of Amman. HCE plans to send 50 senior engineers, project managers, and other senior managers from the UK – though about 50% of these are not UK nationals and, mostly these people haven’t worked together before. The majority of staff, including some senior personnel, will be recruited locally. The project is expected to take 3 to 4 years.

The draft plan is to have a compound built close to the construction site which will house all the expatriate personnel. There will be a shop on the site selling British brands of food and other essential goods which will be specially imported. The site of the compound happens to be close to an English medium international school.

You are part of a team of 4 or 5 people from the HR department who have been asked to produce a report that will be used to advise the project planning team.
