1. Based on any topic covered in the lectures (e.g. Culture, Socialisation, Social Structure & Social Interaction, Deviance, Gender, etc.),

analyze sociologically a health- or healthcare-related issues you have personally experienced. Some examples: COVID-19 pandemic, chronic illnesses, traditional versus Western medicine, hospital stay experience, caring for elderly relatives, etc. (Note that this list is not exhaustive).

2. Conduct an online search for TWO (2) articles (newspaper and/or journal) that discuss this health- or healthcare-related issue.

Articles are recommended to be from within the current year and sources need not be limited to Singapore only (can be international).

3. Support your personal experience with a total of TWO (2) main points from your selected articles.

These 2 main points can be related but MUST NOT BE THE SAME. For each point, provide relevant evidence(s) from your selected articles using the APA citation style.

4. Apply at least ONE (1) sociological concept to each of the 2 main points/ideas identified above in Q3 to analyze or explain the issues.

A concept is a terminology used in sociology. In total, your assignment should have at least 2 concepts. The concepts can come from any topic. Use more specific concepts (e.g. ‘ethnocentrism’, ‘folkways’, ‘masculine roles’) rather than broad concepts (e.g. ‘culture’, ‘social institutions’, ‘gender inequality). Do not provide a definition of concepts, only applications and explanations required. Bold all concepts used in your assignment.

5. Apply ONE (1) sociological theory to analyze this health- or healthcare-related issue.

The three main classical sociological theories are Structural Functionalism, Symbolic Interactionism, and Conflict Theory Sub-theories are, for example, Labelling Theory, Role-Taking Theory, Strain Theory, etc. You can use any of the main or sub-theories. Briefly summarise your selected theory. Use your own words. Do not copy or cut and paste from other sources. Bold the theory used in your assignment. *

6. Cite (in addition to the two articles in Q2) at least ONE (1) reference from a sociological resource.

You may use the recommended textbook or any other credible sociological textbooks. lectures, tutorials, and self-directed learning (SDL) materials are not to be referenced. In total, your assignment should have at least 3 references (2 articles and 1 sociological resource).

7. Reflect on the implications of your findings to nursing practice. Provide at least TWO (2) learning points.
