Relative importance of factors causing delays in construction projects in Singapore
Abstract
Purpose: This research proposes to identify, categorize and rank the factors that are most responsible for delays in construction projects in Singapore. Delays in construction projects can be costly, involve litigation, reduce the profitability of contractors, and cause dissatisfaction among all stakeholders. Thus, it is essential to fix the liability of the party causing the delays and take appropriate measures to control and minimize the delays. This study will focus on ranking different factors and categories that cause the most delays in construction projects from construction professionals’ perspective.
Design/ Methodology/ Approach: A mix of qualitative and quantitative research methodology will be adopted in this research study. A literature review on construction delays will identify the major factors and a theoretical framework will be used to categorize these factors. Quantitative research will involve the use of surveys to collect data from a sample and conduct statistical analysis to rank the different factors. Based on these rankings, the author will identify the most important factors causing delays in construction projects and suggest recommendations to control and minimize these delays. The originality of this research is that it focuses on construction delays in the Singapore context and provides context-specific recommendations.
