Question 1 Creative Problem Solving
In a world marked by ever-evolving challenges, the ability to think creatively is not just a valuable asset but a necessity. From macro issues like environmental crises to personal concerns such as mental health, applying creativity to solving problems can be beneficial to generate fresh and inventive perspectives. For this assignment, we have curated five different real-world problems in the organisational context that you will creatively work through:
- Aging workforce
- Employee integration with foreign talent across industries
- High employee turnover in competitive sectors (e.g., finance and technology)
- Mental health stigma in corporate settings
- Attracting young talent to traditional industries
You do not need to explain why you have chosen your topic above, but you need to make it clear which topic you have chosen in your assignment submission. After choosing the topic, work through the problem using Isaksen’s (2020) version of the CPS, which includes the four components of Planning Your Approach, Understanding the Challenge, Generating Ideas, and Preparing for Action. Although these topics/problems can exist on a wide, global scale, you do not have to work at that level for this assignment. You can choose to work through it on a smaller scale (e.g., local, community or even family level).
Apply Understanding the Challenge to examine and analyse the topic/problem. Next, apply Generating Ideas, and Preparing for Action to propose, compare, and recommend solutions that address the topic/problem.
Recruit ONE person (e.g., family, friend, colleague) as a resource-group member. This person cannot be a current PSY355 student. Work through the SIX CPS stages below (e.g., through using the Lotus Blossom method at the Constructing Opportunities stage with your resource-group member).

Additional notes and instructions:
- About the 20-slide-limit powerpoint file:
- Please feel free to include text and pictures as you deem fit in the slides. However, you need to make sure that everything is in the appropriate layout such that all materials are visible after being exported to PDF.
- About the 10-page-limit Supporting Documentation word file:
- Supporting Documentation can contain any material that documents and supports your competent use of the CPS to effectively foster creativity for the topic/problem.
- Some examples of such material are text paragraphs describing the specific environment, bullet points of answers to divergent questions, flowcharts documenting the problem, images of the current situation, transcripts of interviews with resource-group member, diagrams of possible solutions, tables listing pros and cons, statistical data or results regarding the problem or possible solution, and word clouds to illustrate the prevalence of certain issues or concepts.
- To do well, you need to:
- Plan your slides well; the 20 slides should focus on pertinent points but have enough elaboration so that readers can understand your points and flow of thought.
- Provide specific and useful details in the supporting documentation to support your outcomes.
- Show how you used the CPS (e.g., provide rejected ideas, summaries of discussions that led to the development of certain ideas etc.), not just provide the various CPS outcomes.
- While a reference list is optional if you do not refer to any other sources, substantiating your claims and providing the source of your claims will support your arguments and allow your readers to judge the strength of your claims.
- You may optionally use APA referencing and provide a reference list in your Supporting Documentation file
- If you do refer to other sources or use AI, you are required to cite them in a reference list, or it will constitute plagiarism.
- While you are NOT required to go beyond the textbook and study guide, reading widely and beyond the textbook will add depth to your answer, and references to relevant research studies and examples will earn you more marks. There is an abundance of credible resources that you can access from the library and Library eResources. Do note that internet references such as Wikipedia, SimplyPyschology.org, and online student papers are not counted as credible resources
