Identify the relevant SMM clauses and describe what is deemed to be included in the description and measurement of precast reinforced concrete piles and pile tests.

Interpret Figure Q2 and apply measurement techniques to take-off quantities for the:

(a) Reinforced concrete columns and roof beam including formwork.
(b) Reinforcement in the roof beam.

Specifications:

  • Reinforced concrete shall be of grade 35 strength
  • Formwork used shall be of wrote timber
  • Roof slab shall be 150mm thick. Concrete cover shall be 30mm thick
  • Floor to floor height of the column is 3.20m. There are two columns to be measured
  • All main steel reinforcement bars shall be of high tensile steel. Stirrups shall be of mild steel
  • Minimum bend allowance shall be 150mm long. Hook allowance for links and
    stirrups shall be 24 times the diameter of the bar size

Figures Q3.1 and Q3.2 show the plan and section of a brick load-bearing wall structure. Interpret scope and identify the civil and structural works. Apply measurement technique to take off quantifies for:

(a) Excavation work and disposal of excavated materials off-site.
(b) Strip foundation, Concrete slab, formwork, brick wall, hardcore, and including excavation adjustment. (Note: Brick wall is measured up to the existing ground level).

  • The brick wall shall be of common bricks, laid English bond and bedded and jointed in cement and sand mortar (1:3) mix

Figure Q4 shows the precast RC piling layout plan. Interpret Figure Q4 and apply measurement techniques to take-off quantities for:

(a) One preliminary pile
(b) All working piles

Specifications:

  • One preliminary 175x175mm square precast RC pile is to be measured
  • All precast reinforced concrete shall be of grade 40 and reinforced with 4T16mm diameter main bars with R10 links @ 200mm c/c
  • The estimated driven depth of all piles is 17.50m from the existing ground level
  • Pile shoes shall be of cast iron weighing 25 kg to suit pile size
  • All piles are to be cut at the required cut off level as specified and including cleaning, straightening and bending projecting reinforcement for incorporating into pile caps
  • The ultimate maintained load test shall be up to 3 times the designed working load of 50t or to failure
  • The working load test shall be executed on one 175x175mm square pile up to 1.5 times the designed working load of 50t
  • Piling works shall commence from the existing ground level
