  2. relate learning of social-emotional topics to experiences and how it can support children’s learning; and
  3. critique and reflect on one’s learning.

Description of Assignment

Individual Component: Learning Logs and Reflections (100 marks)

Throughout the module, the student will write TWO Learning Logs (350-400 words for each log), using the format provided and based on the given topics below. The logs have to be succinct and contain significant content related to learning in the respective sessions as instructed by the lecturer. Writing Learning Logs will be carried out as part of class activity and submitted through Turnitin.

Students will also write TWO corresponding short reflections based on the above TWO learning logs. In each reflection (250-300 words for each reflection), students will write about how their learning has changed their views on supporting young children’s social-emotional learning.

Marking Criteria for the Assignment

Criterion Marks Descriptors
Learning logs 40 marks i. Each learning log has relevant details of the social emotional topic(s) covered, succinctly described and clearly written. (20 marks)

ii. Comments for each learning log is linked to the topic(s) that has/have been described. The role of the educator is discussed. (20 marks)

These criteria assess the student’s ability to (i) select, state and organize relevant information and demonstrate effort given for the piece of work; (ii) illustrate links in his/her thinking about the topic(s) and the educator’s role.

60 marks i. Descriptions of the topic(s) of learning are clear and correspond with the accounts in the learning logs; show nicely weaved feelings and thinking. (30 marks)

ii. Reflections demonstrate one’s feelings/reactions and thinking about the topics(s) and there are links to one’s past and current experiences/learning and understanding. (30 marks)

These criteria assess the student’s ability to (i) organise, write objectively, coherently, and paraphrase information accurately; (ii) recall, recognise, explain, interpret, evaluate, and question situations.
