Nanyang Technological University NTU Aquatics module aims to impart knowledge and understanding of the aquatics to the participants. The SSM9401 course will develop the competencies and essential skills required for this sport.

Upon completing the SSM9401 subject you as a learner would learn about

 1.To develop stroke techniques and competencies in swimming

The aquatic coach will demonstrate proper cooldown, warm up, and flexibility exercise required in the swimming system.

To know proper mechanics and techniques to swim the following strokes such as elementary backstroke, crawl stroke, or back crawl stroke as taught in ntu Aquatics gameplay.

2.To be aware of life-saving techniques and some personal survival basic skills

You should be aware of self-preservation techniques in deep water such as survival floating. You will also gain knowledge on how to rescue others safely who require assistance in the water from the instructor during the SSM9401 demonstration sessions.

3.Participants are expected to demonstrate the correct technique of strokes

From ntu Aquatics training tutorials you are expected to practice and finally demonstrate the efficient and correct technique of swimming strokes such as butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and front crawl. To check beforehand swimmer abilities and water adjustment levels.

4.To get an introduction to the basic skills of aquatics and its related activities

Participants are seen enjoying the water activities that will include various games like Water polo, volleyball, basketball, and frisbee. To also develop underwater game skills like game sharks and to learn distance swimming.

You need to perform different training methods such as interval, continuous, long/slow distance, and fartlek as learned in the SSM9401 drill sessions.

5.To acquire an understanding of the fundamentals of Water Polo

The ntu Aquatics coach will make you learn Canoe Polo basics.

The development of swimming skills and strokes will enhance swimming endurance and improve their speed. You would be provided with swimming goggles, swimsuits, swim caps, and lockers also.

6.To be able to organize water/swimming sports events

To have an understanding of how International or local competitions of swimming are organized through the SSM9401 lectures. To be aware of rules, ethics, and regulations that are to be maintained at the swimming area. To demonstrate the correct use of equipment such as kickboards, paddles, fins, and pull buoys. 

7.Develop, improve, and apply swimming techniques and skills for lifelong enjoyment

The teaching of pulling of arms and proper entry from Aquatics class participation. Continue working on inverted flutter kick and coordinating arms. Practice flip turns required for strokes. To learn progression through breathing, pulling, kicking, and floating. To be able to perform proper body protection and proper breathing patterns in water 

8.Students would be able to enjoy and play aquatics as a recreational activity or a social game

To know hydrodynamic principles, swimming training methods, and safety aspects of Aquatic required to create a positive environment to enjoy swimming training. To perform games and skills such as timed swims, diving, relay races, swimming golf, catch upstroke, vertical flutter kicking, finger drag, and press your buoy as included in the SSM9401 elective.

9.To have a proper understanding of the etiquette, Regulation, and rules of the game

To apply knowledge and develop respect for rules and universal water safety regulations around the pool surroundings as taught in the Aquatics schedule. To also know lap swimming etiquette techniques.

You should understand how the body reacts in water by analyzing the body movement underwater, forward, and backward.

10.They will understand how competitions are organized and the importance of aquatics in the sport industry

The SSM9401 practical sessions help in improving muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance. To develop fitness levels to maintain lifelong fitness and health.
